Social Communities Policy

Community is always welcome, so long as it stays welcoming. Our Social Community Policy is there to make our communities reap the benefits of togetherness, without division or divisiveness. Junior Enterprises are cauldrons of community, our policies keep the heat in check.

Our Social Communities Policy

Promoting safe, respectful and inclusive community spaces across the Junior Enterprise Movement

Junior Enterprises Global (“JE Global”) brings together a uniquely international, volunteer-driven community of students, young professionals and partner organisations. In this environment, interpersonal interactions shape not only the culture of the Movement but also the development of the next generation of responsible leaders. Our Social Community Policy defines the standards of conduct that ensure all community spaces connected to JE Global remain places of dignity, fairness and constructive collaboration. It complements our safeguarding framework, including the Revised Global SEA Policy, by outlining the broader expectations that guide behaviour across both online and in-person engagements.

Internationally Anchored Standards

Although JE Global is a student-run organisation rather than an intergovernmental body, we consciously align our community principles with internationally recognised norms. These include the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN Strategy and Action Plan on Hate Speech, widely accepted digital safety and youth protection guidelines, and best practices on respectful conduct promoted across multilateral institutions. These references strengthen the ethical foundations of the Movement and ensure that our global platforms operate according to expectations consistent with responsible international organisations.

Purpose and Commitment

This Policy sets out JE Global’s commitment to fostering environments in which every participant, regardless of nationality, identity, language, or level of responsibility, can engage without fear of hostility, exclusion or disrespect. It reflects our belief that community engagement must embody the same values that underpin our governance: equality, accountability and leadership through service. Community spaces governed by JE Global therefore prioritise respectful dialogue, inclusivity, cultural sensitivity and responsible communication. JE Global, additionally undertakes efforts to align broader policies across the Movement with the standards outlined in its Social Communitites Policy.

Principles Guiding Participation

The Policy affirms several core principles that shape conduct across all JE Global platforms:

Respect and dignity
All interactions should safeguard the dignity of participants and promote constructive, courteous dialogue.

Inclusivity and non-discrimination
The Movement rejects all forms of hate speech, exclusionary behaviour or discrimination.

Safety and ethical conduct
Community spaces must protect participants from harmful, intimidating or inappropriate behaviour, including behaviour that may intersect with our safeguarding obligations.

Professionalism and integrity
Members are expected to represent themselves and the Movement with honesty, transparency, and responsibility.

These principles apply across all settings, global events, digital platforms, working groups, messaging channels, collaborative workspaces and public- or inward-facing JE Global environments.

Expected Behaviour

Participants in JE Global community spaces are expected to contribute in ways that support a climate of trust and openness. This includes communicating respectfully, approaching disagreements with fairness, avoiding inflammatory or misleading content, and respecting confidentiality where required. Community engagement should reflect the diversity of our global network, recognising that cultural differences enrich rather than hinder dialogue. Misuse of JE Global’s platforms for personal gain, commercial promotion or unauthorised representation is inconsistent with our standards.

Behaviour Incompatible with Our Community Standards

The Policy makes clear that harassment, bullying, discriminatory language, degrading or hostile behaviour, and any form of targeted aggression have no place within the Junior Enterprise Movement. Inappropriate or sexualised conduct in community spaces is prohibited and may fall within the scope of the SEA Policy when relevant. The organisation similarly prohibits impersonation, unauthorised disclosure of internal information, unethical sharing of personal data, or the posting of material that undermines safety or dignity.

Maintaining Safe and Responsible Community Environments

The Policy recognises that JE Global’s community is increasingly shaped by digital interaction. It therefore underscores the importance of responsible online behaviour, ethical communication, and respect for privacy, aligned with data-protection frameworks such as the GDPR, LGPD, PIPL and equivalent national regimes. Particular attention is paid to interactions across age groups, hierarchies and cultural contexts, reflecting the Movement’s youth-centred and international character. These measures complement, but remain distinct from, the protection mechanisms established under our SEA Policy.

Shared Responsibility and Leadership

Safeguarding JE Global’s community culture is a shared responsibility. While leaders across the Executive Board, Extended Executive Team, Directors and Officers model exemplary behaviour, every participant contributes to ensuring that our community remains safe, inclusive and respectful. Partners and affiliated entities are expected to uphold equivalent standards consistent with the ethical expectations of the Global Movement.
